Watch the date move as you pay

Save this to a free account, check in once a month with your new balances, and see whether your debt-free date moved closer.

No bank login. Your numbers stay in your browser.

What the date is based on

Your balances, their interest rates and the minimum payments, plus any extra you add. Each month interest is added, every minimum is paid, and the rest goes to the highest-rate debt. When a debt reaches zero, its minimum moves to the next one, so the monthly total you commit to stays the same.

Keeping it true

A debt-free date is only as good as the balances behind it. Updating them once a month, from your statements, shows whether you are ahead of the plan or behind it.

These results are arithmetic on the numbers you enter, not financial advice. Lenders compound interest daily and may change minimum payments, so real statements will differ a little.

Questions

How do I calculate my debt-free date?

Add up what you pay toward all debts each month, apply each month of interest to each balance, and count the months until every balance reaches zero. The calculator does this month by month, paying the highest-rate debt first with anything above the minimums.

How much faster does an extra payment make me debt free?

The table shows your debt-free month and total interest with $25, $50, $100 and $250 more per month. Extra money goes straight to principal, so it also cuts the interest charged in every later month.

Should I include my mortgage?

Only if you are trying to pay it off early. Most people use this for credit cards, personal, car and student loans, and buy-now-pay-later balances.

Does this check my credit or connect to my bank?

No. Nothing is sent anywhere: the calculation runs in your browser on the numbers you type.
