Statement import
Import a CSV or PDF statement on your device, check the rows and add the paydays and bills the planner finds. Part of Plus.
Statement import is part of Plus. It reads a statement file you downloaded from your bank or card provider, and suggests the paydays and bills it finds.
Your file never leaves your device
The file is read inside your browser tab. It's never uploaded to our servers, and the imported transactions are stored only in your browser.
Import a file
- Download a statement from your bank's website or app. CSV is the most reliable format.
- In Pennykite, open Import.
- Drop the file on Drop a CSV or PDF statement here, or use Choose a file.
- Check the preview, then import.
CSV files
The importer works out the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), whether there's a header row, and the date format. Check the column matches before you import. The preview updates as you change them:
- Date, with the format: month/day/year, day/month/year or year-month-day.
- Description.
- Amounts: a single Amount column, or separate Money out and Money in columns.
- Running balance, if the file has one.
Banks lay out amounts in different ways. Both of these work:
Date,Description,Amount,Balance
09/01/2026,RENT PAYMENT,-1800.00,640.25
09/04/2026,ACME PAYROLL,1500.00,2140.25Card exports often list purchases as positive numbers. The importer recognizes this, so purchases are treated as money going out.
Untick Include on any row you don't want to import.
PDF files
PDF import is best effort. It works with text-based PDFs, the kind where you can select the text. Scanned statements are pictures of paper, so they can't be read. Download a CSV instead if your bank offers one.
You review every row before anything is imported. When an amount has no sign or running balance to go by, it's marked as a guess so you can check it.
Here is what we found
After import, the planner looks through your transactions for:
- Paydays that repeat every week, every two weeks, every four weeks, twice a month or monthly.
- Bills and subscriptions that repeat.
Check the name, amount and category of each suggestion, then choose Add to my plan. Nothing is added until you do.
If the statement has a running balance, you can also use the statement's closing balance as your current balance.
Importing again
You can import a newer statement that overlaps an older one. Transactions you already imported aren't added twice.
Imported transactions
Imported transactions lists what you've imported, with a search box. The list shows up to 300 at a time. Up to 20,000 transactions are kept per account in your browser; the oldest are dropped first. They're included in your backup file.
